Welcome back!

We the northwest is showing its colors; grey and other shades of gray. So for all intensive purposes my training has moved almost completely indoors. I am going to still try and get out on the bike from time to time but the time involved with cleaning up after a wet weather ride is no small matter. Running wise I only have two good pairs of shoes and they dont dry fast enough!

I went for my first swim since Treasure Island tonight. I was very suprised at how I did. Of the three sports I believe I can cut the most time from my races with my swimming. Being my strong sport in highschool, I should be able to leverage my previous talent with a intensive training program. I just have to get back to my previous glory :)

The triathlon gift guide is still underwork but you can see our mess still :) If there are any products you have been eyeing but dont know much about, post a comment and Ill do my best to help you out! Have a great one everybody.

The explanation, How to unofficially win a triathlon

Well, now that that is out of the way, we can move on. I have been continuing my running and bike training while I let my ribs heal. Swimming is still out of the question but hopefully not for much longer. The distances and lengths of my workouts have increased as I have decided to fore go competing in only sprint races. After my showing at Treasure Island I don’t see any reason why I cannot be extremely competitive in the Olympic distance races by the end of the off season. Back to work :)

Went for another run at Lewisville, Now I need to bike!

Yesterday started with a session in the gym but I couldn’t let the nice weather we are having go to waste. I went for a run once again at Lewisville Park. This time the hills felt a little easier than before. After the run and some food, I hit the pool for 2000 yards. My stroke/swim has gotten faster but some of the weigth lifting has really tightened my stroke up. I’m going to have to work on this for swims that are a much longer distance. Well…of to another day of training! Have a good one!

Today I was posessed. 13 days to go!!!

So today started as a normal day but quickly became an intense one. I began the day recording the video you will see soon discussing my data collection during run and bike workouts. After that I hit the road for what was going to be a nice 10k. It turned into an all-out run. After coming home and recovering, I went to the gym for “just a swim”. Well some fool in the pool thought it would be fun to race me. I had to crush those dreams. Because of that I ended up with about 1500 yards at near race pace. Being all fired up I decided to hit the stationary bikes. 30 minutes later I decided “lets do a brick” so I went and did a 19min 5k immediately after the bike workout. Needless to say Im tired but as determined and fired up as ever!

So I started the day with a cycling/running brick that was sprint race distances. The bike felt decent but the run was really good. After that I went to the gym for another run and then did a little over a 1000 yards in the pool. I’m going to start recording some videos about training tips and my training so watch out for those. Im looking forward to the Treasure Island Tri more than ever. If I were to podium at the event I think my dedication to becoming a pro will be even more steadfast and validate my efforts. I will be throwing down absolutely everything I have on the course we’ll see if anyone can keep up :)

Second and final lap of the Black Diamond Tri run leg.

Second and final lap of the Black Diamond Tri run leg.

Well today started with a 43:00 10k. Not too bad but I had way to much left in the tanks at the end. Should have set a harder pace from the beginning. Also the 43 minutes may be decieving. FYI I do 5 mins of slow jogging to get my legs ready. So don’t think that a 43min 10k is my race time :) After the run I hit the pool for a really good workout. I didnt hit the bike today but I plan on doing at least a 40k tomorrow at around an 80% pace. My swimming conditioning has hit a great point. I’m definitely feeling great about my chances at Treasure Island. Time to get hotel reservations!!

Swim Workout

10X50’s, 25,50,75,100,200 ladder (750 Total), 1750 (great that I can just go swim that much in a row, bids well for olympic distance races).

Well today was planned as a light day as I plan to really throw it down tomorrow. Friday I did 5 miles with race pace blocks mixed into the workout and I tested the road bike with aero bar setup I’m thinking about running for Treasure Island (more on that later) . I did a leg weight lifting workout today after a 2 mile warm up run. I went back to the gym later and swam a really good 3000 yards. My plan for Sunday is to hit all three sports. My swim training partner wants to swim early so maybe Ill hit the three sports in order. Sunday will post more about my bike choice solution for the Treasure Island Tri.

My swim workout, more of a distance workout

500, 10×100’s, 10×50’s, 1000

Water exit from the Black Diamond Triathlon. That swim was cold and long.

Water exit from the Black Diamond Triathlon. That swim was cold and long.

Today was a great day at the gym and on the road. I started the day with a timed 5k. I was able to eek out a 17:30 5k which ain’t shabby at all. If I can throw a time like that down at a race I wouldn’t have to look back much. After the run I hit up the gym for a nice 3000 yard swim. After a few hours of rest I went back to the gym for a 45 minute 10K run then hit the pool again for a 1000 yard cool-down. Sadly I didn’t have time to work on the bike. Tomorrow Ill be more diligent :)

Here is the Swim workout layouts

10×50’s, 500, 500, 500, 10×50’s, 20×25’s

10×50’s, 500 (race pace)

Transition photo from the Late Summer Madness Tri

Transition photo from the Late Summer Madness Tri

My workout today was almost entirely in the gym. I started the day with a light run/walk with a friend at Tyron park in Lake Oswego which barely got my heart rate up. After that I pretty much ate then went straight to the gym. At the gym I did 40 minutes on the treadmill which gave me a total of about 5.6 miles. Used a packet of GU 15 minutes in which definitely gave me a little extra kick towards the end. After the run workout I hit the pool for a decent workout. I’m a little sore from the last few days so the workout was fairly erratic. I would venture a guess of around 2000 yards today. Because I seem to enjoy an extra large dose of lactic acid I hit the stationary bike for 30 minutes after. Overall it was a pretty tiring day. Tomorrows post will have a little more bike tech stuff as I’m starting to get the bike ready for the race.

Hard Swim, Light Bike. 33 days to San Fran

This is the pre-race meeting at the Late Summer Madness Tri. It was cold outside but the water felt great.

The pre-race meeting at the Late Summer Madness Tri. It was cold outside but the water felt great suprisingly.

Well my first overall win at the Late Summer Madness Tri was published in the “Columbian” yesterday. Here’s the link ;) That was pretty sweet.

The workout plan for the day was for a light bike ride to begin followed by a real good swim. Keeping with my plan the bike ride was only about 15 miles. The pace though was pretty decent. I would venture a guess of about 80% effort. The swim on the other hand was hard. Started out with a long warm up set and didn’t get out of the water for over an hour. This workout was much more focused on endurance than the previous few. Ended the day with over 3600 yards of swimming. Not too shabby. With my swim form reaching this level I think running will once again be my “weakness”

Swim workout

10×100’s, 10×50’s, 20×25’s, 500, 500, 10×50’s,
